How do we perceive music? What explains that different individuals can feel distinct emotions while listening to the same piece? My work tries to understand the cultural differences sourcing music perception by analyzing neural activation. I use behavioral, cortical (EEG, MEG, ECoG), and intra-cortial recordings in ferrets data to track cultural traces of grammatical encoding of music in the brain. My interests rest on melodic expectations, cultural and individual differences, and how they are encoded in the brain to generate musical emotions.
